About

Know Your Own (in Ukrainian, «Знай своїх») is a non-commercial educational project. We want young people in Ukraine and around the world to know the people who made Ukraine - briefly, honestly, and in a way that’s worth reading. Our land has always been, and still is, extraordinarily rich in bright, talented, and gifted people whose achievements changed the course of history and still inspire us today. After all, without a deep understanding of our past and an awareness of our own roots, it is simply impossible to build a successful, conscious, and strong future.

Who we include

The catalogue includes people who had a lasting impact on Ukrainian statehood, culture, science or identity, and people of Ukrainian origin who made a notable contribution to world history. We aim for balance across eras, fields, regions, and between women and men. Living people can be included too; for them we cover only their public work.
